Vintage Jewelry Adds a Unique and Glamorous Touch to Prom and Evening Wear

If you are looking to accessorize your Prom gown or little black dress with a unique touch, vintage jewelry is the way to go. Vintage jewelry allows you to complete your already gorgeous ensemble in an affordable and glamorous way. Vintage jewelry typically dates back between the 1920s and 1970s, although with the 1980s now becoming 30 years old, pieces from that era are sometimes considered to be “vintage” too. (Jewelry that dates prior to circa 1920, I consider to be “antique.”) Here are a few ideas to complete your evening look using vintage jewelry:

Chandelier Earrings: Chandelier earrings have been brought back to mainstream thanks to some of our favorite actresses in Hollywood. When picking out a pair of vintage chandelier earrings, they shouldn’t be longer than your neck, and though they look great with up do hairstyles, if you have a short hair style or your hair is pulled back, the earrings shouldn’t fall below your jaw line. If an earring is too long, it will make hair style look out of proportion with the rest of your look.

Go for the Gold: While silver-colored jewelry and white gold has typically been the preferred metal for youthful jewelry, yellow gold and rose gold jewelry is on the rise and making a bold statement. Vintage gold-colored jewelry looks great and is very complementary with richer, jewel-tone colored dresses.

Multi-strand Necklaces: More strands are better than one as multi-strand necklaces are not only popular but are especially great for gowns that are low cut or strapless. Necklaces and accessories are no longer shy as multi-stand necklaces satisfy today’s current fashion trends leaning toward the eclectic and layered looks.

Broach the Subject: Broaches have been more visible the last few seasons and offer many ways to add glam to your ensemble. Broaches can be added to your outfit by pinning them to your handbag, a satin belt or a cloth bracelet. They can also be used to secure a scarf or pashmina. Broaches can also add sparkle to your hairdo. A broach can be pinned to a plain black ponytail elastic, attached to a hair comb or large clip with jewelry wire, or added to the side of an elastic or cloth headband.

Put a Ring on it: Elaborate cocktail rings are back in a big way. Traditionally cocktail rings are over sized, worn on the fourth finger of the right hand and designed to bring attention to the wearer. Vintage cocktail rings come in a many bold colors and styles and make a bold statement by adding confidence to any outfit.
